Israeli army injures two Palestinian policemen, arrests 18 citizens

Two Palestinian police officers were shot dead by Israeli troops in the northern West Bank town of Nablus on Monday morning. The army also arrested 18 Palestinians, including two children, and a leader of Hamas during a wave of arrests in different parts of the West Bank.

Nablus Governor Ibrahim Ramadan told the official Palestinian news agency WAFA that the Israeli army suddenly surrounded a police headquarters and fired without justification, causing two injuries.

The Israeli army said that its forces opened fire on Palestinian Preventive Security forces during its incursion into the northern West Bank city of Nablus "by mistake".

He said that an Israeli force was conducting arrests in Nablus, which targeted Palestinian security forces by mistake, injuring two of them.

Furthermore, our correspondent quoted Palestinian sources as saying: "The Israeli army arrested 18 Palestinians after they broke into their houses and destroyed their personal belongings."

The sources added that among the detainees were two children and a leader of Hamas from the West Bank.
