Putin's envoy to Syrian regime: Consider interests of all ethnic and religious groups in Syria

The Russian Foreign Ministry said today that a Russian delegation visited Damascus and met with the regime's President Bashar al-Assad, stressing that the interests of all ethnic and religious groups in Syria should be taken into account during the political process.

The Russian envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiyev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus to exchange views on the current situation in Syria.

"The two sides discussed in detail the situation on the ground in the context of the need to restore Syria's territorial integrity and unity, taking into account the interests of all ethnic and religious groups," the statement said.

The ministry said in a statement: "The two sides discussed the provision of comprehensive humanitarian assistance to Syria without preliminary conditions and strengthen the political process supported by the United Nations among the Syrians in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2,254."

A delegation from the Russian Presidency and the Foreign Ministry visited Damascus yesterday and met with the President of the Syrian regime Bashar al-Assad.
