A child was killed and a man and a woman sustained injuries of varying severity after Syrian border guards opened fire in the al-Mushayrifa area of Talkalakh in Homs countryside as they attempted to cross into Lebanon illegally, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Observatory said the injured were taken to a hospital in the town of al-Hadidah, where the child later died of his injuries. No further information was available about the health conditions of the man and woman.

The shooting occurred near the border strip before the three individuals managed to cross into Lebanese territory.

On July 20, a young man, aged 18, was killed during clashes between Syrian border guards and a group of smugglers near the town of Jarajir in the Qalamoun region of Damascus countryside, amid continued security tensions and tightened measures along the Syrian-Lebanese border.
