The centers of the Directorate of Transport and Transportation in Hasakah province remain closed to the public, nearly a month after their services were suspended, pending the completion of the directorate’s integration into the administrative structure of the Transport Ministry in the transitional government. The continued suspension has disrupted citizens’ transactions related to vehicles, ownership and technical inspections.

The directorate suspended its services on August 31 as part of measures it said aimed to unify institutions and working mechanisms and connect its network to that of the Transport Ministry, following meetings between directorate officials, the governor of Hasakah and ministry representatives.

Since then, the centers have not resumed receiving visitors or processing transactions, while no official date has yet been set for their reopening and the restoration of services.

The continued suspension has disrupted a wide range of transactions, including vehicle registration and ownership transfers, the issuance and renewal of driving licenses, the recording of legal and technical changes, periodic technical inspections, as well as the issuance and replacement of registration plates and vehicle documents.

The disruption has also affected procedures for replacing lost or damaged documents, obtaining registration statements and inspection records, processing seizure and disposal restrictions, collecting fees and other procedures related to the directorate’s work.

Citizens, particularly vehicle owners and those involved in sales, purchases and ownership transfers, are facing difficulties in handling their affairs due to the continued closure of the centers, amid the absence of a clear date for the resumption of services or an alternative mechanism for processing transactions during the integration period.

According to previous statements by the relevant authorities, the suspension of services is linked to the completion of the administrative and technical procedures required for the integration process and the connection of the directorate’s network to that of the Transport Ministry. However, these procedures have yet to be completed.

Citizens are calling on the relevant authorities to expedite the integration process and reopen the transport centers, or establish a temporary mechanism allowing them to complete essential transactions. They warned that the continued suspension would further increase the backlog of transactions and add to the burden on vehicle owners and visitors.
