The Derbasiyah Education Complex reaffirmed students’ right to receive education in Kurdish, stressing that education in the mother tongue is a cultural and educational right. It called for strengthening the presence of Kurdish in schools and ensuring the provision of curricula and educational materials.

The Derbasiyah Education Complex issued a statement today on students’ right to Kurdish-language education. The statement was read by teachers Ghada Barafi and Abdel Karim Hamo, with the participation of teachers from the city.

The statement affirmed that language is an inherent right of every people and represents an essential part of their identity and heritage, stressing that its loss means losing part of that identity and cultural rights.

It explained that educating students in their mother tongue is not merely a school subject, but a cultural and educational right that contributes to raising a generation committed to its language and identity and capable of learning and developing.

The statement called for supporting Kurdish-language education in schools and providing appropriate curricula, textbooks and educational materials, as well as the necessary support for specialized teachers, to ensure education that respects linguistic and cultural diversity.

It also stressed the need to preserve Kurdish language and culture and strengthen their presence in education, noting that preserving this heritage is linked to the sacrifices of the martyrs.
