Condemnation continues to mount over the attacks and acts of vandalism targeting displaced residents of Grî Spî as they returned to their homes. The attacks resulted in the burning of returnees’ property and vehicles. In this context, residents of Derik in the Jazira spoke to ANHA agency.

Citizen Ali Oryan said the attacks targeting displaced residents returning to Grî Spî were deeply regrettable, particularly as they occurred at a time when a new era of integration and peaceful coexistence was expected to begin, with everyone treating one another as brothers. However, the opposing parties had disregarded these values.

“We, as Kurds, remain committed to peaceful coexistence and reject any attack against any community. Therefore, we strongly condemn and denounce these acts of vandalism in Grî Spî. We reaffirm our commitment to our land and will remain steadfast despite all these barbaric attempts. The Syria of the future must be a diverse country that recognizes the rights of all its communities and peoples, allowing everyone to live in dignity and security,” he said.

Citizen Roshen Rashid, meanwhile, said the attacks and violations targeting displaced residents of Grî Spî had nothing to do with humanity. She described them as barbaric acts aimed at undermining the foundations of peaceful coexistence and brotherhood between Kurds and Arabs.

“We, as a people, will resist these schemes seeking to undermine our values and achievements, which have been cemented by the blood of thousands of our sons and daughters. We will not allow those seeking to sow discord to achieve their goals,” she said.

Rashid added: “We reiterate our strong condemnation of these attacks and the burning of citizens’ property and vehicles. We affirm that we will stand by our people in their time of hardship and demand that everyone involved in vandalism and attacks be held accountable and brought to justice.”

Citizen Sakina Mohammed also condemned the attacks, saying: “We denounce these criminal attacks in Grî Spî and ask: Why are the Kurdish people continually targeted instead of being allowed to enjoy stability and a safe, peaceful life? Our people seek nothing more than their rights, away from conflict and chaos. In response to all these attacks and violations, we affirm that we will grow even more steadfast and stronger, and remain determined to strengthen peaceful coexistence and stay on our land despite all conspiracies and schemes.”
