16 Al-Shabaab militants killed by Somali army’s operation

The Somali army, with French air support, carried out a military operation on the youth movement sites in the south of the country, killing 16 of its members.

Somali media said, "The military operation took place in the Jilib district in the south of the country, killing 16 terrorist elements as well as leaders."

It is reported that the last time France provided support to the Somali army in its security operations was during January 2013.

Al-Shabaab has been fighting for control and sovereignty over the Horn of Africa country for years.

The movement's members control vast areas in southern and central Somalia, and they frequently attack security forces and civilians.
