3 European countries demanding an end to escalation in Idlib

Britain, France and Germany stressed in a joint statement today the need to stop military escalation in Syria, expressing deep concern over the recent wave of violence that has killed more than 120 civilians in northwestern Syria.

"The military escalation must stop," said a joint statement issued by the British Foreign Office.

"Air strikes on population centers, indiscriminate shelling and the use of explosive barrels, as well as the targeting of civilian and humanitarian infrastructure, especially schools and health centers, are gross violations of international humanitarian law," the statement said.

Syrian forces, supported by Russian air forces, launched ground operations last week against the southern part of Idlib and parts of Hama province.
