AA calls for an international investigation in al-Hamzat mercenaries’ crime against Afrin women

The Autonomous Administration (AA) of North and East Syria condemned the violations of the mercenary groups against women in the occupied canton of Afrin, held the Turkish state responsible for the crimes of these groups, and called on the international community to take clear positions on these crimes, put an end to them and condemn them.

In a written statement issued today, the Autonomous Administration in North and East Syria called for Russia, America and the United Nations to take clear positions on the crimes committed by the mercenary gangs known as Firqet al-Hamzat.

The text of the statement included:

After more than two years of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries of Afrin city, the terrorist militias supported and funded by the Turkish regime continue to commit the most terrible crimes against civilians and their property therein, in light of the unjust international silence and submission to the blackmail of the Turkish regime which does not hesitate to use the card of terrorism and refugees to cover the crimes of its mercenaries in Syria and Libya.

What these groups do is a clear transgression, a flagrant and public violation of all international covenants and charters as well as all moral values, as these practices are a true genocide in all its meanings.

Abuses against women

Hundreds of abuses and thousands of criminal practices take place in Afrin (displacement, killing, kidnapping, financial extortion, house demolitions, destruction of holy sites, field executions, burning, looting and robbery, resettlement of strangers), and today there are added violations, transgressions and unethical treatment against eight women who are being held by the so-called Firqet al-Hamzat in Afrin, which is one of the terrorist factions affiliated with the Turkish regime, and these behaviors express the brutal and immoral nature of these mercenary gangs.

What is happening in Afrin in general, as well as in Serêkaniyê / Ras al-Ain and Girê Spî / Tel Abyad, and what has been disclosed to the detained women in exchange for a ransom request by al-Hamzat mercenaries is a very serious violation.

Condemnation and calls for holding an international investigation into the mercenaries’ crimes

While we, in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, condemn and denounce these violations and hold the Turkish regime responsible for what happened against these women, we appeal urgently to all human rights organizations, feminist movements in the world, all United Nations’ organizations, the Russian Federation and the United States of America to carry out their urgent responsibilities before the international public opinion, condemn these crimes immediately and express public and clear positions regarding what Firqet al-Hamzat and all mercenary factions and groups supported by Turkey do, we also demand the necessity of conducting an international investigation and holding those responsible for these violations, putting an end to them.

Calls for women's institutions to act against the crimes committed against women

What is happening in Afrin is a violation of human rights and the rules of international law, and the entire world owes the heroic sacrifices made by women in Afrin and in northern and eastern Syria against the terrorist organization ISIS and Turkey's mercenaries, and the advocates of women's freedom and human rights must take urgent action in all countries of the world to condemn the violations practiced by the mercenaries of the Turkish regime.

The statement concluded with slogans: "Eternity and Glory for the Martyrs, Freedom for Prisoners and Kidnapped."
