On Saturday, AANES issued statement, in which it explained that owing the inaction and negligence of the international community to appeals of AANES to return its citizens from ISIS organization to their homes, and for fairness to the victims and to achieve social justice, the AANES decided to begin the trial of ISIS elements those who are being detained in AANES centers.
The text reads:
Recent years, fierce battles erupted between SDF and ISIS mercenaries, in which SDF was able to defeat ISIS and achieving smashing victory on them, starting from Kobani to al-Baghouz town and passing through the capital of their alleged caliphate, al-Raqqa, considering this organization is the most dangerous in world, the worst atrocities crimes had been committed by ISIS, more than 60 nationalities, who entered Syrian lands through Turkish lands with the support Turkish Government, but our forces are represented by SDF managed to defeat ISIS geographically with the support Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, during which we made great sacrifices , bringing the number of martyrs to more than 15,000 martyrs and more than 25,000 wounded.
In the last ISIS stronghold, in Baghouz, more than 10,000 ISIS fighters have been detained and are now staying in democratic self-administration detention centres in north-eastern Syria, in addition to tens of thousands of family members, mostly children and women, now residing in camps in North and East Syria.
From the early days of the end of the Battle of Baghouz and the aftermath, AANES appealed and repeatedly its calling on the international community to fulfil its responsibilities in finding solutions to the issue of ISIS elements in its custody. Initiatives have been launched for all States concerned, human rights organizations and the United Nations for the establishment of an international tribunal, in order to try ISIS elements according to what AANES has of irrefutable evidence for committing horrible crimes against NE, Syria people.
Today, despite the great challenges, the difficulty and sensitivity of the stage, and the heavy burden of AANES as a result of these criminals remaining in detention centres without any prosecution for their crimes against innocent people, staying the same can't last any longer. and that the failure to bring such criminals to justice and justice is contrary to international laws and conventions, in addition, the security situation is more serious if they remain and continue to do so.
Therefore, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria AANES has decided to begin bringing the ISIS elements of foreigners in its custody to public, fair and transparent trials. in conformity with international and domestic laws on terrorism and in keeping with the rights of the victims' prosecutors and their family members, this does not imply the AANES's reversal of its view on the need to establish an international tribunal or a court of an international character specific to the issue of ISIS terrorists, and we continue to insist that we call on the international community to respond to our demands for the formation of an international court. (International Counter-Terrorism Coalition), the United Nations, relevant international rights organizations and local organizations to engage positively, be present and provide support during all stages of trials.
