SDF had temporarily halted the final phase of the "battle to defeat terrorism" within al-Jazeera Tempest campaign to end the military presence of IS in the north and east together because of the large number of civilians held by IS mercenaries in the last pocket they occupy and use them as human shields before the fighters' progress.
Thus, SDF changed the track of the battle by introducing their Special Forces into the last enclave to open the safe passages and liberate the civilians. In recent days, they managed to liberate more than 5,000 civilians, including the families of IS mercenaries. A large number of IS mercenaries from all nationalities surrendered to the Syrian Democratic Forces. Today, the forces evacuated the last batch of the civilians stranded in the last pocket of IS for the General Command of the Syrian Democratic Forces to announce on Friday evening at 18:00 the start of the final phase to liberate what remained of al-Baguz village.
In this context, Hawar news agency interviewed the commander in the ranks of SDF Adnan Afrin and he said, "Today, we are achieving the promise we made to our people and our martyrs, and in the next few days, we will spread the good omens about the great victory by ending IS' military presence in the north and east of Syria."
