Amidst shared enmity with Turkey, France to deliver fighters, frigates to Greece

French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly said on Monday that Paris will soon submit proposals to Greece regarding the renewal of its frigate fleet, after an agreement to supply Athens with 18 Rafale fighters.

Parley was speaking at a joint press conference with her Greek counterpart Nikos Panagiotopoulos in Athens

Earlier, France and Greece reached an agreement worth 2.5 billion euros (3 billion dollars) under which the latter would buy 18 "Rafale" fighter jets manufactured by the French "Dassault" company.

Greek media reports stated that Athens would receive 12 used and 6 modern Rafale aircraft, with deliveries to take place within two years, starting in mid-2021.

Paris takes a supportive stance in favor of Greece in its border dispute with Turkey in the Aegean and eastern Mediterranean seas.
