Athena: Disarmament of Greek islands is not up for discussion

A  Greek government spokesman confirmed his country's refusal to hold discussions with Turkey regarding the disarmament of the islands in the Aegean Sea.

The Spokesman for Greek government, Stelios Petsas, said today that there has been no discussion by the government on the disarmament of several islands in the Aegean Sea, which Turkey disputes for its situation.

Petsas stressed that Turkey does not have its own views on the Dodecanese Islands, adding that Greece will "do its utmost to protect its sovereignty."

In response to a question about whether discussions at the highest level between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan would be possible at this stage, Petsas said that this requires "confidence and readiness."

He said: "If Ankara carries out these two matters, talks between the two presidents cannot be excluded."
