bloody toll of regime's forces in demilitarized zone threatens violent escalation

At least 20 members of the regime have been killed as a result of an attack by Ansar al-Tawhid mercenaries in the northern countryside of Hama, the largest casualty toll since Russia and Turkey announced the formation of the so-called demilitarized zone.


The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that mercenaries "Ansar al-Tawhid", launched at dawn on Sunday, an attack on the positions of the regime forces in the axis of al-Masasna within the area of the so-called demilitarized in the sector of the countryside of Hama.

According to the observatory, "violent clashes broke out between the two parties before the attackers fled," and documented the background of this attack killed at least 20 of the regime forces, while killing more than 5 of Ansar al-Tawhid mercenaries, and the number of deaths between the parties may be higher far away to the presence of wounded, dangerous cases, according to the observatory.

The channel quoted Russia today as a military source in the regime forces that 18 soldiers in the ranks of the regime were killed in exchange for 32 mercenaries from Jabhit al-Nusra.

"Military units operating in the northern countryside of Hama have lost personnel and equipment in the ranks of terrorist gangs in response to repeated violations by their members of the agreement to De- escalation in Idlib," the agency said.

She added that "an army unit carried out artillery strikes on the positions of the terrorist organization of Jabhit al-Nusra in the village of Hawiz north of al- Gab plain in the countryside of Hama in response to attacks on military points and safe villages in the northern countryside."

The agency said that" the strike resulted in the elimination of a numbers of terrorist and wounding others, destroying of their weapons and aminations, while civilians have been martyred and wounded mostly women and children."

On Sunday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, before starting a Gulf to discuss the situation in Idlib and other Syrian files, expressing his resentment at Turkey's procrastination by implementing the agreement and stressed that Turkey did not implement the provisions of the memorandum of agreement on Idlib on its declaration of demilitarized zone free from radical groups.
