Counting of votes began in municipal elections in Istanbul

The ballot box were closed in the presidential election, and the Supreme Commission for Elections began sorting votes.

Preliminary election results are expected in the coming hours.

  On May 6, the Turkish Supreme Electoral Commission canceled the results of Istanbul's municipal elections in an election held at the end of March and decided to re-run them on June 23.

The most prominent competitors for the Istanbul municipality was Ben Ali Yildirim, a candidate for the People's Alliance, which includes the Justice and Development Party and the National Movement, and Akram Emamoglu, a candidate for the National Alliance, which includes the Republican People's Party and the opponents.
