Europe: We have no interest in seeing Turkish and Russian bases in Libya

European Commissioner for External Relations, Josep Borrell, confirmed today, Saturday, that the European Union has no interest in seeing Turkish and Russian military bases in Libyan territory.

In an interview with the German newspaper "Der Spiegel", Borrell said: "We have no interest in seeing Turkish and Russian military bases off the coast of Italy."

Borrell considered the crisis of relations between the European Union and Turkey "the greatest challenge in European foreign policy."

Turkish influence has increased recently in Libya, after Ankara signed agreements, including military ones, with the Accord government headed by Faiz al-Sarraj. Turkey has sent soldiers, mercenaries and various weapons to Libya to support the Accord forces. Turkey also controlled some Libyan military bases.
