Under the auspices of the British Jani Khalaf Charity Foundation, the Rojava Kurdistan Intellectuals Union (HRRK) is preparing to launch the first session of a poetry competition for young poets.
The federation announced that it would receive entries from January 1, 2021, and that the door for entries will be closed on the first of March of the same year.
The competition coincides with the anniversary of the loss of the Kurdish activist Jani Khalaf, when she was 19 in mysterious circumstances in 2014, and the contest organizers seek to encourage writing in the Kurdish language and encourage the talents of the younger generation.
The value of the prizes that will be awarded to the contest winners is $ 500 for the first place, $ 300 for the second place, and $ 200 for the third place.
A member of the activities committee of the Rojava Intellectuals Union, Ahmed Hosseini said that the supervising committee did not set any conditions regarding the subject matter and content of the participating poems, apart from the known standards for the artistic construction of the participating poem.
The results of the competition are scheduled to be announced on March 29, 2011, in conjunction with Jani Khalaf’s birthday, during a poetry evening held on this occasion in the city of Qamishlo.
