French Foreign Minister: sovereignty of Iraq cannot be compromised

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian confirmed  on Thursday that support for the Iraqi government in facing challenges is the goal of his visit to Baghdad, saying that achieving Iraqi sovereignty is "something that cannot be compromised."

"Our visit to Baghdad aims to support the government in facing challenges, and we support the security forces in their war against ISIS, and we will not relent in front of our common enemy," said Le Drian at a joint press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Fouad Hussein in Baghdad.

Le Drian stressed, "The achievement of Iraqi sovereignty is something that cannot be comprised, we look to Iraq to restore its leadership role in creating balance for the Middle East."

It is reported that, on Thursday morning, Le Drian arrived in Baghdad on the second visit in less than a year.
