The US Treasury announced the addition of eight individuals and ten entities to the US sanctions list as part of the "counter-terrorism measures and procedures related to Syria."
The sanctions included “branches of the Syrian General and Military Intelligence, the mercenaries of Ahrar al-Sharqiya, and the terrorist Ahmed Ihsan Fayyad al-Hayes, nicknamed (Abu Hatem Shaqra), who is responsible for killing the politician and Secretary General of the Future Syria Party, Hevrin Khalaf.”
Abu Shaqra has strong relations with official Turkish authorities. In April 2018, Abu Chakra attended a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The mercenaries of "Ahrar al-Sharqiya" are among the groups supported by Turkey, and they are known to be the most criminal of factions, and the most executors of kidnappings of civilians.
Ahrar al-Sharqiya was affiliated with Jabhat al-Nusra, which is on the international terrorist lists, and its founder is Abu Maria al-Qahtani, who was previously the leader of the so-called Shura Council of Jabhat al-Nusra.
