Lawyers of the Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Ocalan issued a statement commenting on the statement by the Turkish Justice Minister regarding lifting the ban on Ocalan's visit. They said:
"The Ministry of Justice explained that the ban on visiting our client, Mr. Ocalan, has been lifted and that he is allowed to visits.
We informed the public that we met our client on May 2. We explained that the Bursa Criminal Court had lifted the ban after we objected to the ban.
However, although since May 2, 2019, we have been making requests to meet our client on a daily basis. They deny us visiting him on the grounds that since April 22, 2019 imposed the penalty of violating the order on Ocalan.
According to the Ministry of Justice, the illegal ban allows for regular meetings with our client, Mr. Ocalan, in prison. However, his right to meet his lawyer and family, telephone calls, sending regular messages and other means of communication are not carried out.
Therefore, we declare that the statements of the Turkish Ministry of Justice, as the body of its independent decision, and in accordance with the provisions of the law in this regard, are binding decisions for all institutions and departments involved in this regard, and must be implemented.
We would also like to inform you that the Committee against Torture (CTP) has conducted its first visit to Imrali Prison since April 2016. According to information we have received, the committee will report on its visit and we will follow up closely. "
