February 23 marks the sixth anniversary of the ISIS attack on Tal Tamr district and its villages, using various criminal methods and various weapons and means to destroy villages and places of worship, in addition to kidnappings of people, with the support of the Turkish occupation.
After more than 4 months of clashes in the area, the people of the region were able with the support of the military forces: People's Protection Units, Women’s Protection Units, the Syriac Military Council, and the Khabur Guard forces, to defeat the terrorist organization and prevent it from entering the city center.
With the arrival of the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries to the outskirts of Tal Tamr district, after its occupation of the cities of Serêkaniyê / Ras al-Ain and Girê Spi / Tal Abyad in the last half of 2019, the people of the region fear repeating ISIS scenario and its crimes against them, considering that the Turkish occupation is the godfather of ISIS and its crimes.
Our agency met with the co-chair of the Tal Tamer District Council, Joan Mulla Ayyoub, to talk about the attacks of ISIS mercenaries at the time and the current Turkish occupation in the region.
Joan Mulla Ayyoub, began his speech by defining Tal Tamr district geographically and its strategic importance, saying: “Tal Tamr district is the key to Al-Jazeera region, and it constitutes a transportation link between the regions of Al-Jazeera region and the Syrian interior.”
He added, "The city is distinguished by its many components and is known as a Syrian mosaic, and with the start of the revolution in Syria, Tal Tamer district was under the threat of mercenary factions and terrorist groups through their attacks on the city."
'Solidarity was the impenetrable dam'
Mulla Ayyoub explained, "On February 23, 2015, Tal Tamr area was subjected to a violent attack by the terrorist organization ISIS, which tried in various ways to enter the center of Tal Tamr and occupy it directly supported by the Turkish occupation, but was unable to."
He continued: "Thanks to the military forces, their multiplicity, their solidarity, and the support of the people of the region, the terrorist factions were unable to enter the center of Tal Tamr district, because of the resistance that was shown against the terrorist organizations."
‘Series of crimes, Turkey was supporter'
Mulla Ayyoub continued his speech by shedding light on ISIS crimes in the region, saying: "There have been many crimes by ISIS in the region, as it kidnapped more than 250 Christian civilians, and destroyed 8 churches and several villages that fell under its control, in addition to destroying bridges and infrastructure in the area."
Mulla Ayyoub noted that during the ISIS attacks on Tal Tamr, “Turkey did not remain silent and supported it,” and it pumped water in Khabur to separate the military forces and as a result a number of fighters were martyred.
'The presence of the occupation is a loss of security'
Joan Mulla Ayyoub explained that the Turkish occupation, since the beginning of the crisis in Syria, has supported the mercenary factions to destabilize security and stability in the region.
He added, "After the mercenaries failed to achieve any progress in favor of the Turkish occupation, they intervened with their weapons in Afrin, Serekaniye and Girê Spi / Tal Abyad, reaching the outskirts of Tal Tamr district."
Mulla Ayyoub stressed that with the Turkish occupation in the region, there is no security and stability, and there are daily crimes and almost daily bombing of the region."
'ISIS the spoiled child of Turkey'
Mulla Ayyoub said that ISIS mercenaries received Turkish support in 2015 during their attack on the Tal Tamr area, and he continued, “there is no difference between it and the crimes committed by the occupation state in Afrin, Serekaniye and Gire Spi / Tal Abyad," stressing that "crimes Turkey is in violation of international laws. "
He added, "We all know that ISIS was the spoiled child of Turkey, so let alone if the same father was present in the area."
At the end of his speech, Mulla Ayyoub called on the international community, humanitarian organizations to work seriously to stop Turkish crimes and prevent the recurrence of what ISIS did in the region, and said, "The international community knows very well that Turkey is the private school for the graduation of terrorism to neighboring countries."
