People of Qamishlo are lighting candles in memory of March 12th Uprising

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of March 12th Uprising, and in memory of its martyrs, the people of Qamishlo are lightning the candles on the street of the city.


On Tuesday, March 12, marks the 15th anniversary of the Qamishlo Uprising, the Baathist regime and some chauvinists attempted to create a sectarian strife between the Kurds and the Arabs against the backdrop of a football match between Al-Fatwa Club and Deir ez-Zor and al-Jihad Club(Qamishlo), the strife resulted in killing more than 35 people, including children and women. Then the general Kurdish people in Syria in a popular uprising spread to all cities and areas of Rojava and the city of Aleppo and the Syrian capital Damascus.

To commemorate the martyrs of the uprising, the residents of the city of Qamishlo go out every year on the night of March 11 and light candles in the streets to commemorate the martyrs. The city of Qamishlo witnessed the lighting of candles in most of its neighborhoods this evening.
