The stage of defeating IS mercenaries started from Kobanî city when the fighters of the People Protection Units (YPG) and Women Protection Units (YPJ) set historic epics that would remain stuck in the minds of the people of the region. In 2015, SDF began eliminating IS in several stages to liberate the capital of the alleged caliphate, al-Raqqa, and then the entire eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. Now, IS mercenaries are besieged in al-Baguz village east of Syria.

Thousands of Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs and of all the components of the region promoted to the rank of martyrdom in the fierce battles erupted between SDF and IS. This has gained SDF an international weight as they defeated IS to end a black era witnessed in large areas of Syria.

In turn, the people of ed-Dirbasiya district of al-Hasakah canton thanked SDF for defeating IS and assured their gratitude for SDF.
