“Politicians’ trial is evidence of Turkey’s relationship with ISIS”

The Women's Council in North and East Syria condemned the Turkish authorities’ trial of politicians and HDP members, and said that this trial is illegal and is clear evidence of the close connection between the Turkish government and ISIS.

On April 26, the Turkish authorities announced the trial of 108 politicians and members of the Democratic Peoples’ Party (HDP) over the case of supporting Kobani's resistance in the events of October 2014.

In this regard, the Women's Council in North and East Syria issued a condemnation statement.

The statement included "A Turkish court has begun the trial of 108 politicians and members of the opposition HDP party, including the two former co-presidents of the party, and these practices express the policy of repression that the Justice and Development Party follow against its opponents, and this trial comes against the background of the demonstrations and events that took place during ISIS terrorist attack on the city of Kobani in 2014, in solidarity with the city of resistance (Kobani), which was attacked and besieged by ISIS, which committed the most horrific crimes against civilians.

The statement indicated that the city of Kobani, whose sons and daughters showed heroic courage, became a symbol of resistance, and received global support and attention, and it was the beginning of the entry and support of the International Coalition for the region, and that this trial and at this time is clear evidence of the close connection between the Turkish government and ISIS. As a reaction and revenge for the defeat of the terrorist organization ISIS, and it is considered a trial for all those who provided support to the resistance of Kobani from the Turkish interior, regional countries and all over the world.

The statement affirmed that this trial is illegal in all its aspects, and if it indicates anything, it indicates that the Justice and Development Government, represented by Erdogan's person, evaded the benefits of the stage and attempted to eliminate any democratic organization or movement that may be an alternative to it in the future, especially after the victory the Democratic Peoples’ Party achieved in the elections that took place in previous years and the popularity that the party won in Turkey, thanks to its democratic project, which is the key to the solution to the Kurdish issue and unresolved issues in Turkey. Therefore, the Justice and Development government is pursuing methods that contradict international norms and laws, including arbitrary arrests of HDP members and lifting immunity from of deputies and the dismissing mayors and replacing them with others affiliated with the Justice and Development Party.

In its conclusion, the statement condemned: “We in the Women’s Council in North and East Syria condemn the trial of politicians and members of the HDP, as well as the oppression and arbitrary detention of women by the Justice and Development government and their unlawful trial.

We call on all the forces in the world that stood against ISIS and fought it, to stand today in the face of the fascist Turkish government, and we call on the international community to put an end to the Turkish state’s continuous violations.
