Russia obstructs Security Council statement condemning what is going on in Idlib

Russia has blocked a UN Security Council statement on Syria to condemn the attacks and the situation in Idlib, Russia's deputy ambassador to the United Nations, Vladimir Savronkov, said.

"We obstructed and prevented the publication of a press release on Syria issued by the UN Security Council, prepared by Belgium, Germany and Kuwait, which concluded that it distorted the reality of Idlib," Savronkov told reporters after the UN Security Council held closed-door consultations on Syria on Friday.

"Russia and the United States continue dialogue through military and political channels on the situation on the ground in Idlib," Savronkov said, calling for "not creating a parallel reality in the Security Council by denying such a dialogue." In fact, work continues beyond cameras, newspapers and journalists.
