"Continued provocations by terrorist factions have prompted the Syrian army to launch operations aimed at ensuring security in government-controlled areas," the two Chiefs of Staff said in a joint statement.
The statement added: "The activity of the mercenaries of the "Heyat Tahrir al-Sham HTS and its factions failed the efforts of Russia and Syria, which aimed to alleviate tensions in Idlib, and the shelling of the militants killed more than 150 civilians during the month of January".
The statement added" The mercenaries planted landmines on the roads and closed the ways, which Russia and Syria have allocated for the departure of civilians in order to prevent their exit,"
"After the terrorists retreated, the Syrian army found western-made equipment and ammunition in the possession of the terrorists, indicating continued support for fighters from abroad," the statement said.
Battles are escalating in Idlib, following the failure of The Russian-Turkish talks for the second time on tension there, as the Syrian regime has taken control of many areas of Idlib and Aleppo, while Turkey continues to send military reinforcements to the region.
