Russian Defense announces killing of 50 Turkish mercenaries, 24 regime forces in Idlib battles

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Syrian regime forces repelled a series of attacks in the so-called De-escalation zone in Idlib, north of the country, in which 50 gunmen were killed, while it confirmed the killing of 24 regime forces during the past day.

The head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria, Yuri Borenkov, said in a press conference on Friday, “The Syrian Armed Forces Units managed to maintain their positions. While repelling the attacks, about 50 gunmen were killed and 7 four-wheel (SUV) vehicles equipped with heavy and booby-trapped guns were destroyed.”

He added that 24 Syrian soldiers were killed and 24 others were injured during the past day in Lattakia, Aleppo, Idlib and Hama.

He added, “At 11:34 before Friday noon, on January 17th, gunmen attacked with a drone a site of the Syrian government forces in the al-Assad Academy area in Aleppo city, killing 2 Syrian soldiers and wounding 4 others.”

He continued, “During the clashes with the armed groups’ fighters over the past day, 12 soldiers of the Syrian armed forces were killed and 24 others got wounded.”

Borenkov explained that the number of civilian casualties in Aleppo city as a result of the bombing of mercenary gangs since January 14th this year reached 28 civilians in addition to injuring 56 others.
