The mercenaries of the Turkish occupation state committed a horrific massacre against a family in Jandris on the eve of Newroz, killing 4 citizens.
SDC condemned this massacre through a statement, and demanded that those responsible for committing crimes against humanity and daily violations of international humanitarian law be held accountable.
The statement read: "On March 20, the terrorist factions supported by the Turkish occupation killed 4 civilian brothers in Jandris district of Afrin region who were living in the camps, after the earthquake of last February 6 destroyed their house, following the lighting of the Newroz fire." .
SDC stated: "We, in the Syrian Democratic Council condemn this heinous crime and shocking massacre, and express our sincere condolences to the families of the victims."
The Syrian Democratic Council affirmed: "We find it necessary for us to warn that condemning the crime without placing it in the context that produced it.
The crime cannot be separated from the context of occupation, displacement and incitement against the Kurds nor can it be isolated from the context of chaos, gang rule, and the absence of law.
Jandris's crime comes in a political, security, and social context, for which the occupation authorities and their tools in controlling Afrin bear direct responsibility.
All parties that have remained inaction about ongoing crime of the occupation and the displacement of the indigenous people of the region and their conversion bear responsibility to a marginalized and persecuted minority on its land.
SDC called for the need to take several measures, "We deplore the blatant and continuous attacks on our Kurdish people by the Turkish-backed factions, which are wreaking havoc in the area.
1- Declare Afrin a demilitarized humanitarian zone, expelling all military factions, and allowing the safe return of its original inhabitants under the supervision of the international community.
2- Accountability of those responsible for committing crimes against humanity and daily violations of international humanitarian law.
3- Hand over the administration and security of the Afrin region to its indigenous local population. Accordingly, setting up a fair and transparent judicial system.
4- Release of all detainees and abductees, clarifying the fate of the forcibly disappeared, and compensating those affected.
5- Ensure that the media and international human rights organizations enter Afrin and operate freely.
The Syrian Democratic Council expressed its appreciation for the positions of all the free people in their sympathy with the victims and their families and said: "Let the Kawa fire of mourning be raised in the sky of Syria and triumph with the determination and solidarity of the honorable Syrians, mercy and eternity for the martyrs, Newroz will remain a symbol of ending injustice and a beacon of freedom and justice."
