In an interview with Asharq al-Awsat, the Commander-in-Chief of the People Protection Units (YPG) Sîpan Hemo has described the attacks on Swaida people as brutal attacks, he added "Our Druze people wracked the same pain as did our people in Kobani and Afrin (occupied by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries."
Hamo explained that they do not differentiate between the attacks on Kobani and Afrin and attacks on the people of Swaida. "The Protection Units are ready to send forces to Swaida province to free them from terrorism." He said.
Hamo referred to the offer of assistance to Swaida province to the "concerned parties". He said that "the Protection Units proved their success in fighting the terrorist organization like IS and the terrorists, as SDF's fighters liberated one-third of the country's area from terrorist organization."
Regarding the situation in Afrin, the Commander-in-Chief of the People Protection Units confirmed that the military operations of their units against the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries continued in Afrin and said that these operations would be intensified over time."
On 25 July, IS launched an attack in Swaida province, causing about 250 people death. In addition, the mercenaries kidnapped dozens of civilians, including 14 women.
Negotiations have collapsed between IS and notables of Swaida province to release kidnapped women and children by IS after Druze sheikhs rejected demands IS.
