A gathering was organized in the Zorava Quarter in the Syrian capital Damascus by the Star Congress with the participation of tens of women in the quarter in question to deliver a statement on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The statement reads as follows:
''We, as women in the Star Congress, in Damascus, stand today on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, violence that is despised by all means, to state that violence against women is a flagrant and clear breach against the human rights and has dire consequences affecting not only women, rather the whole society, socially and economically''.
Factors that contribute to the spreading of violence against women were indicated to in the statement of which low levels of education and illiteracy, as well as the important role played by the liberated women in developing the social life, and taking decisions to play the leading role in all arenas of society '' politically, culturally, socially and intellectually''.
At the end, the Star Congress called on ''all women all over the world to stand up to violence and thoughts that impede her liberty''.
