The US walks out of United Nations arms forum

The United States walked out of the disarmament conference on Tuesday to protest Venezuela's assumption of the rotating presidency of the UN-sponsored forum, as it did a year ago when Syria took office, Reuters reported.

"We must try to do everything in our power to prevent those countries from assuming the presidency of international bodies," US Ambassador for Disarmament Affairs Robert Wood told reporters after leaving the meeting in Geneva.

"The representative of Juan Guaido, the interim president, must be in this body, he must sit on this chair now, the Maduro system (Nicholas) has died."

Maduro, according to the agency, has control over state institutions in Venezuela. He describes Guido as a puppet of Washington and blames US sanctions for a highly inflationary economic collapse and a humanitarian crisis in his country.
