Turkish Foreign Minister Mouloud Jawish Oglu met in Baghdad today with his Iraqi counterpart Mahmoud al-Hakim, followed by a press conference.
The Turkish minister asks officials in Baghdad to step up efforts against the PKK and strengthen cooperation with the Turkish army in this area.
The Turkish army occupies a number of areas of southern Kurdistan, while several Turkish military headquarters are deployed in the region.
The agenda of the Turkish minister's visit also includes the subject of Shengal, which was targeted by Daesh mercenaries in 2014. The Turkish army has already targeted sites in Shengal under the pretext of fighting the PKK.
The Iraqi government as well as the Kurdistan Regional Government has not yet shown a firm stance on the violation of the sovereignty of Iraqi territory by the Turkish army.
Turkish Minister Jawish Oglu is expected to meet with officials of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Hewler.
The visit of Jawish Oglu includes the meeting with Iraqi President Barham Saleh, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, Kurdistan Regional Government President Nechirvan Barzani and his deputy. He is also expected to meet Turkmen groups in Hewler.
