UAE: Al-Wefaq forces control Tripoli, disrupt political solution to crisis

UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Anwar Gargash said, "Al-Wefaq government forces led by Fayez al-Sarraj control the Libyan capital Tripoli, and stall the search for a political solution to the country's crisis."

"At the same time, extremist militias continue to control the capital and impede the search for a political solution," said Anwar Gargash, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign affairs, according to Reuters.

He added, "The priority in Libya is to confront extremism / terrorism and support stability in light of this protracted crisis."

Since the Skhirat agreement was reached in 2015, the state has been divided sharply in the state's institutions between the East, run by the House of Representatives and the army led by Haftar, which receive Gulf and Western support, while the presidential council of the al-Wefaq Government, headed by Fayez al-Sarraj, which receives support from Qatar and Turkey manages the west of the country.
