On the third anniversary of the start of the Turkish aggression on the Afrin canton, the Kurdish Progressive Democratic Party in Syria and the Kurdish Democratic Al-Wahda Party in Syria (Yekîtî) today issued a joint statement condemning the occupation policies in Afrin, and the statement reads:
“On the 20-1- 2018, the Turkish Air Force of various kinds began launching intensive raids on the Syrian region of Afrin, including the villages and districts of Bulbul, Rajo, Sheikh al-Hadid (Shiyah) Jinderesse, Sharan, Ma'abatli, where the Turkish forces and their affiliated groups continued their air and land attacks, using various kinds of weapons, which led to the death and injury of thousands of our people as a result of those Turkish attacks that struck against all international laws and norms.
After three years of the Turkish occupation and its allied mercenaries of Afrin region and the total number of the daily crimes and violations against those who remained in Afrin, including looting and plundering properties, killings, kidnappings and arrests, and imposing burdensome royalties to force them to leave their homes and properties to carry out the demographic change against the Kurds' cultural identity. It has become clear for all those with insight, the Turkish policy is a systematic to fight the Kurds first and complete its plan to occupy more Syrian lands.
We are in the Progressive and Unity parties while we recall this disaster against our people and the aspects of their suffering as well as the huge sacrifices they made in defense of their dignity, we condemn the policies of Turkification and Arabization by the Turkish state and its opposition proxies against the Afrin Kurds, appealing to the international community, bodies and organizations concerned with human rights, especially the forces involved in the Syrian affairs should bear all their responsibilities and put pressure on Turkey to end its occupation of the region, stop the forced displacement and provide the necessary protection for the return of our Kurdish people to Afrin and all the occupied Kurdish areas.
