US embassy in Baghdad under new missiles

At least two missiles landed on Baghdad's Green Zone on Monday, without casualties reported, the Iraqi army said in a statement. A security official said the the US embassy was targeted.

The two Iraqi officials added that three missiles struck the GZ, one of them landed in the vicinity of the sprawling US embassy compound.

The army’s statement stated that there were no casualties and the investigation was still ongoing. Minor material damage was inflicted, and a vehicle was damaged.

The GZ includes foreign embassies as well as the Iraqi government headquarters.

The Joint Operations Command (JOC) uncovered the missile source that targeted the Green Zone.

The Command Spoksman, Major General Tahsin al-Khafaji, said, according to the official channel, that "the missiles were launched from the Karrada side."

He added, "The uncontrolled groups are behind the launching of the rockets."
