"Hezbollah is using its elements in the Lebanese parliament to manipulate institutions to support the financial and security interests of the terrorist group and to strengthen the malicious activities of Iran," Treasury Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Sigal Mandler said.
"Hezbollah threatens the economic and security stability in Lebanon and the region as a whole at the expense of the Lebanese people," he said.
The United States will continue to support the Lebanese government's efforts to protect its institutions "from exploitation by Iran and its terrorist agents, and to secure a more peaceful and prosperous future for Lebanon," he added in the same context.
The ministry said that the ratings today confirm that there is no distinction between the political or violent activities of Hezbollah, noting that the latter does not differentiate between the military and political wings.
The United States classified Hezbollah as a foreign terrorist organization in 1997 and imposed sanctions and amendments to its classification several times since that date.
