Washington asks for IAEA meeting on Iran

Washington has called for a meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Iran's violation of the maximum uranium stockpile set out in the nuclear deal.

The United States has asked for a special meeting of the IAEA's 35-nation board of governors to discuss Iran, the US mission to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Friday.

IAEA diplomats said they expected the meeting to be held on Wednesday after the agency said this week that Iran had exceeded the maximum uranium stockpile set out in the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.

This came at a time when Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of International Affairs, said that Iran will raise uranium enrichment more than allowed in the nuclear agreement, as of Sunday.
