Zarif: Saving nuclear agreement is responsibility of international community

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said it was the responsibility of the international community to salvage the nuclear deal and said that if the international community felt that the nuclear agreement was an important achievement, it should take practical action to preserve it.

In a statement to the Iranian news agency IRNA on arrival at Beijing airport, Zarif said the international community had so far limited its views and issued statements often instead of taking action.

On the definition of practical measures, Zarif said, "The practical procedures are quite clear, economic relations should be normalized, which is referred to explicitly by the nuclear agreement."

He added that resolution 2231 of the UN Security Council also referred to this subject, so "if the international community and other States members of the nuclear agreement and our friends in it, such as Russia and China are willing to maintain this achievement they have to work through practical measures to benefit our people from the interests of the nuclear agreement" .

The Iranian foreign minister arrived Beijing today on a tour of Asian countries, including Turkmenistan, India, Japan and finally China, to discuss ways to develop bilateral relations and exchange views on major regional and international issues, including the nuclear deal.
