On the 25th of this May, the city of Hasaka in NE Syria witnessed the activities of the Second National Unity Forum for Syrian Clans and Components, under the slogan “Dialogue, Safety, Construction, for a Unified, Decentralized Syria.” It ended with a set of outcomes, so how? Was it covered by the Arab press?

Under the title “The Syrian Democratic Forces send messages of reconciliation to the interior and the region,” which ran on the cover of Al-Arab newspaper, the newspaper drew attention to the reconciliation messages that the Syrian Democratic Forces sent to the interior and the region, during the second National Unity Forum for the Syrian Clans and Components, thus refuting the accusations promoted by its opponents of adopting a “separatist project” in the  region.

These messages came from the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian Democratic Council, during the forum and at a time when the Autonomous Administration is preparing to organize municipal elections, the first after the reforms it introduced to the political and administrative system.

Observers say that great challenges await the Autonomous Administration, including Damascus’ position rejecting any steps it takes, as well as the continued Turkish targeting.

The newspaper says, citing observers, that the steps taken by the Autonomous Administration in recent months, especially in terms of establishing official institutions and a constitution for the region, are in the context of imposing the region of NE Syria as a fait accompli, and this may be the beginning of crystallizing a final solution to the Syrian crisis through the establishment of a decentralized system, this is an idea that the international community may adopt. The Autonomous Administration revealed on Saturday that the number of candidates for the municipal elections scheduled to be held on June 11 reached 5,336. The Autonomous Administration announced earlier this month the start of the electoral campaign for all independent candidates, parties and political blocs, according to conditions set by the High Elections Commission.

For its part, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper also discussed the Syrian Clans and Components Forum, which was under the slogan “Dialogue, Safety, Construction, for a Unified, Decentralized Syria,” with the participation of 5,000 people from various cities, towns, and villages in the NE Syria.

The newspaper highlighted the most important aspects of the forum, including the interventions of tribal sheikhs and political and military figures in the region, pointing at the same time to the silence of the Damascus government regarding this forum and the absence of any comment in this regard.
