The Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration, Ilham Ahmed, discussed the security and administrative situation in Kobani during a meeting with Aleppo Deputy Governor Ali Hanoura and Kobani Security Director Majd al-Din al-Sheikh at the city’s Internal Security Forces headquarters.

The meeting addressed the latest developments in Kobani, along with a number of issues related to the security and administrative situation in the area amid rapidly unfolding developments in the region.

Ilham Ahmed confirmed the formation of a fact-finding committee to investigate the events that took place in Kobani, particularly those inside Kobani Prison. She stressed the need to take appropriate measures and precautions to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

She also wished the injured a speedy recovery and offered her condolences to the families of the victims, calling on the people of Kobani to participate in the martyrs’ funeral ceremonies in a spirit of responsibility.

Kobani witnessed heightened security tensions on Friday following a large-scale demonstration protesting the martyrdom of Sipan Hazni, a fighter serving in the Syrian Ministry of Defense. The demonstration was followed by the arrest of several young men, before tensions escalated inside the city’s prison amid reports that prisoners were being transferred to Aleppo. The incident resulted in the martyrdom of nine inmates and injuries to 17 others.

The martyrs’ funeral ceremony is scheduled to take place today at the Dijla Martyrs’ Cemetery in Kobani.
