The Democratic Union Party (PYD) organized a public meeting today in Abira village, in the Jal Agha area of the Jazira region, marking the 28th anniversary of the international plot against leader Abdullah Ocalan on October 9, 1998. The meeting was held under the slogan, “With the peace initiative and democratic society, the international plot and the Imrali system will collapse.”

Residents of the town and its villages attended the meeting, along with members of civil society institutions, families of martyrs, and representatives of Kurdish parties, women’s movements, and youth organizations.

The event began with a minute of silence in tribute to the souls of the martyrs. Salih Buti, an administrator with the Democratic Union Party, then spoke about the circumstances of leader Abdullah Ocalan’s departure from Syria and the beginning of the international plot against him. He also addressed the latest political developments in the region.

Buti said the plot began in October, when Ocalan left Syria and traveled to Europe, stressing that its aim was to eliminate the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and destroy any hope for the Kurdish people’s revival.

He noted that the plot failed to achieve its objectives due to leader Ocalan’s determination and the Kurdish people’s resilience. He added that Ocalan turned Imrali into a center of thought, and that the thousands of analyses produced there have become a reference for peoples, including the Kurdish people, in organizing themselves and achieving gains.

He said that the parties involved in the plot sought to undermine the Kurdish people and their liberation struggle and target the leader’s thought and philosophy, which is based on opposition to authority and patriarchal mentality, noting that 70 countries were involved in the plot.

Buti added that the leader left Syria and the Middle East in search of a solution to the Kurdish issue and to protect the Kurds and other peoples from genocide, saying that he had sacrificed himself to protect peoples.

Buti also touched on the democratic nation project, saying that it had achieved many gains and strengthened coexistence and a culture of reconciliation and tolerance in the region.

Buti noted that, after 53 years of struggle and resistance, leader Abdullah Ocalan continues to work to protect the Kurdish people and their gains despite the circumstances they face. He said that Ocalan had moved the Kurdish issue from the stage of armed struggle, which contributed to protecting the Kurdish people and bringing their voice to the world, to a stage of seeking legal and constitutional recognition of these gains through the launch of the peace and democratic society process.

At the conclusion of his remarks, Buti stressed that the international plot and the Imrali system would collapse through the success of the peace and democratic society process. He called for support for the process, stressing that leader Abdullah Ocalan is capable of achieving stability and protecting the gains of the Kurds.

The meeting concluded with chants of “Long live the resistance of leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Kurdish people!”
