In fulfilment of the will of martyr Berîtan (Gulnaz Karataş) and to mark the 34th anniversary of her martyrdom, the Kongra Star in Tel Tamer organised an event to prepare halawiya sweets, reaffirming its commitment to the martyrs’ wishes and to continuing the path for which they struggled and sacrificed their lives.

Members of the Kongra Star gathered at its headquarters in Tel Tamer, where they took part in preparing the halawiya sweets ahead of a commemorative event in memory of martyr Berîtan, scheduled to take place tomorrow at the Martyrs’ Families Council Hall in the city centre.

The event was marked by an atmosphere of cooperation and collective work among the participants, who affirmed their commitment to martyr Berîtan’s will, to continuing the path of the martyrs, and to preserving their legacy of struggle. They noted that honouring these wishes expresses their loyalty to the martyrs’ sacrifices and their determination to continue along the path of resistance and freedom.

Halawiya is a traditional homemade sweet prepared with flour, oil and sugar and garnished with nuts. Its preparation is linked to martyr Berîtan’s will, as she requested before her martyrdom that the sweet be made and distributed in her memory. This has since become an annual tradition symbolising loyalty to her sacrifices and adherence to the path of resistance and freedom.
