The conference, which was held in the hall of the Baqi Khedo Center for Culture and Art, began with a minute of silence, followed by a speech by the former co-chair of the Council of Martyrs’ Families in the Euphrates canton, Aisha Effendi, in which she said: “The Kurdish people were breathing their last, but with the appearance of leader APO, they returned to life again.” We were able to stand on our feet again with the thought of leader APO.”

The Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, also participated in the conference via Zoom.

Mazloum Abdi stated that the freedom movement achieved victory through the sacrifices of the martyrs and said: “Our greatest strength in our movement and in our revolution is our connection to our martyrs, and it is our duty to be loyal to our martyrs until the end and follow their path.”

Abdi said that Kurdistan has witnessed many attacks and massacres, and from day one until now there have been continuous attacks against our movement and our revolution, especially attacks targeting Rojava. He added: “The threat of ISIS continues. The Turkish state is carrying out genocidal attacks in order to eliminate our revolution. Its attacks have begun.” In Bakur and Rojava, it also launched an attack targeting the infrastructure in Rojava and wants to occupy other areas through these attacks, but all its efforts fail and are in vain.”

Mazloum Abdi said that they will continue the struggle until the end for the sake of their people. “It is our duty to be loyal to the martyrs. The duty of the families of the martyrs is to be loyal to the martyrs wherever and whenever they are and to rally around freedom and institutions. The first to rally around this society and its institutions are the families of the martyrs.”

The conference work continued with the reading of the directives of Leader Abdullah Ocalan on relating to the values of the martyrs, read by teacher Aras Hesso. The participants also discussed the organizational status of the Martyrs’ Families Council during the past two years, in addition to putting forward many proposals and recommendations.

The Conference elected Sarah Khalil and Mohamed Bouzi as co-presidents of the Council of Martyrs’ Families in the Euphrates canton. All co-chairs in the districts and cities also took the oath to perform their duties.
