North Kurdistan delegation visits women’s organizations in Qamishlo

A delegation of representatives from local administration councils and municipalities in North Kurdistan visited the Kongra Star women’s organization, the Hilala Zêrîn cultural movement, and the Union of Women’s Media in Qamishlo, stressing the importance of continuing meetings and strengthening coordination between Rojava and Bakur.

The North Kurdistan delegation, comprising representatives of local administration councils and municipalities affiliated with the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), continued its visit to women’s institutions and movements in Qamishlo today.

The delegation included Devrim Demir, co-mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality and co-spokesperson for the Local Administrations Diplomacy Committee; Safiye Akdağ, co-mayor of Yenişehir Municipality in Amed Province; Sevim Bejiji, co-mayor of Farqin Municipality in Amed Province; Belkiza Beştaş Ebuzdemir, co-mayor of Tetwan Municipality; and Ruken Demir, a member of the Local Administrations Diplomacy Committee.

The delegation visited the Kongra Star Movement, the Hilala Zêrîn Movement, and the Women’s Media Union (RAJIN). Administrative representatives and members of the women’s organizations welcomed the delegation. The visit included introductory sessions and presentations on the work and activities of the women’s institutions.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Devrim Demir, co-mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality and co-spokesperson for the Local Administrations Diplomacy Committee, praised the role of women in Rojava and their resistance.

She stressed the importance of the coming phase and the need to continue visits and strengthen coordination between Rojava and Bakur, describing the visit as a historic step for the women’s delegation.

For their part, Kongra Star administrator Gulistan Kelo, Hilala Zêrîn representative Gulbahar Rubar, and Women’s Media Union representative Amal Mohammed emphasized the importance of the delegation’s visit and the need to continue holding similar meetings and gatherings in the future.

They also outlined the circumstances surrounding the establishment of women’s institutions during the difficult stages of the Rojava Revolution, highlighting their roles in politics, art, diplomatic relations, and women’s media.
