The Kurdish people's rejection of the decision issued by the Ministry of Education in the Syrian transitional government regarding the Kurdish language continues. The decision limits the teaching of Kurdish to only three classes per week, amid widespread condemnation and calls for the decision to be reconsidered.

In this context, political party leaders in Tirbespiye spoke to ANHA agency, stressing the need to adopt education in the Kurdish language and constitutionally recognize it in Syria.

The Secretary of the Kurdistan Democratic Party – Syria, Joan Siko, explained that studying the Kurdish language is a legitimate right of the Kurdish people, stressing their adherence to this right and their refusal to relinquish it.

Siko called for the decision concerning the Kurdish language to be amended, pointing out that the decision is insufficient and that what is required is official recognition of the mother tongue in the Syrian constitution, thereby guaranteeing every nationality the right to speak its own language and preserve its culture.

He stressed that political parties will continue their struggle to preserve and strengthen the gains that have been achieved, uphold the mother tongue, and emphasized the need for the Kurdish people to participate in drafting the new Syrian constitution and for the rights of all communities to be guaranteed.

For his part, the Secretary of the Kurdish Democratic Roj Party in Syria, Kovan Kanao, said that reducing the number of Kurdish-language classes represents an attempt to deny the existence of the Kurds and deprive them of their right to education in their own language.

Kanao pointed out that the presence of the Kurdish people on their land was achieved through the sacrifices of thousands of martyrs, stressing the need to preserve education in the mother tongue and not relinquish the gains that have been achieved.

At the conclusion of his remarks, he affirmed that the Kurdish people have the right to learn in their own language wherever they are, calling for adherence to the Kurdish language and culture and expressing his hope for the construction of a united Syria in which the rights of all nationalities are safeguarded.
