Under the slogan “The International Conspiracy and the Imrali System Will Collapse with the Peace and Democratic Society Initiative,” the People's Initiative organized a protest today at the Şehîd Bawer Youth Center in Derik, with dozens of residents taking part. The protest condemned the international conspiracy targeting Leader Ocalan on October 9, 1998.

The protest began with a minute of silence, followed by a speech from Civan Hesen, co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) office in Derik. Condemning the international conspiracy on its 28th anniversary, Hesen said it had targeted human values, particularly the will of the Kurdish people.

Hesen noted that Imrali Island had become a center of resistance around which the Kurdish people had rallied, adding that this resistance had enabled them to bring their cause to the attention of the entire world.

Hesen added, “The authoritarian states viewed Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s Democratic Nation project as a threat to their own interests because he called for the freedom and justice of peoples. This prompted those states to conspire against him, and they continue to do so to this day. As Kurdish people, we will continue to intensify our struggle until Leader Abdullah Ocalan achieves physical freedom.”

The protest concluded with chants demanding the physical freedom of Leader Ocalan.
