QAMISHLO

The Qamishlo Youth and the Young Women’s Union organized a torchlight march in the city today, condemning the international conspiracy targeting leader Abdullah Ocalan and expressing support for civil peace in Hasakah.

The demonstrators gathered at the Rojava Roundabout in Qamishlo, carrying Kurdish flags and symbols, portraits of leader Abdullah Ocalan, and lit torches.

After marching through several main streets, the demonstrators stopped outside the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office, chanting slogans honoring Ocalan’s resistance on İmralı Island and expressing support for civil peace in Hasakah following acts of vandalism in the city earlier in the afternoon.

Following a minute of silence in tribute to the martyrs, a statement was read by young woman Zilan Kabar.

“As Qamishlo youth, we condemn the international conspiracy against leader Ocalan and affirm that targeting the leader means targeting the will of peoples and their struggle for freedom,” the statement said.

It added that the conspiracy aimed to crush the Kurdish people's free will through the targeting of leader Ocalan.

“The ideas of the leader in Syria and Rojava inspired hope among oppressed peoples. This is why the forces that targeted the leader orchestrated the international conspiracy,” the statement added.

The youth called for a spirit of resistance to be maintained to achieve leader Ocalan’s physical freedom and defeat the forces targeting peoples yearning for freedom. They also stressed the importance of protecting existing gains and ensuring a life of freedom and democracy.
