The Sulaymaniyah Criminal Court issued its final rulings on Thursday in the case of Lahur Sheikh Jangi and his associates, known as the “Lalehzar” case. The verdicts included prison sentences of varying lengths for several defendants, while two detainees were ordered released after approximately 14 months in custody at the Sulaymaniyah Asayish prison.

According to the details of the ruling, the court sentenced Lahur Sheikh Jangi to five years and three months in prison, Polat Sheikh Jangi to three years and six months, and Rebwar Hami Haji Ghali to two years.

The court also sentenced Aras, Karwan, and Ramadan to one year and six months in prison each, while ordering the release of Omar Sheikha and Kivan Mohammed.

The verdicts were handed down following a series of court hearings held to examine the case, after which the court issued its final ruling against the defendants. Lahur Sheikh Jangi is still facing a separate case under Article 406, for which he is scheduled to stand trial at a later date.

However, Lahur Sheikh Jangi’s lawyers announced that they rejected the ruling, describing it as unjust and confirming their intention to appeal it before the Kurdistan Region’s Shura Council, seeking a review of the decision.

Lahur Sheikh Jangi and his brother, Polat, objected in the courtroom after the verdicts were read out, describing the ruling as a disgrace to the court and the judiciary.
