The General Assembly of the Turkish Parliament approved the bill authorising the ratification of the “Mecca Agreement” following the conclusion of parliamentary debates.

Speaking to Turkish media, Ziya Altunyaldız, a member of parliament representing the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) from Konya province, said the agreement aims to strengthen regional security cooperation.

He stressed that the agreement does not target any third country and that its primary objective is to prevent conflicts rather than expand them.

The approval follows last week’s adoption of the same bill by the parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

On 7 August, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signed the “Mecca Pact” on joint defence.
